St George’s Day 2025

As many of you know, all sections take part in a St George’s Day Parade in Romsey. This year, St George’s Day will be on 27th April, and it is expected that the whole group will attend. There will be an OSM event for young people to sign up. Section Leaders will be looking for young people to carry the flag, so please keep an eye out for this opportunity.

Below is the information provided to us by Romsey District Scouts:

As in previous years, drop-off and pick-up will take place at Abbey Green.

  • Drop-off: 2:00 pm
  • Pick-up: 4:15 pm

Please ensure that parents, friends, and other spectators remain outside the Abbey until the Scout and Girlguiding members are seated. Unfortunately, seating inside the Abbey is limited.

  1. Everyone will attend the service in Romsey Abbey.
  2. All members of the Scout and Girlguiding movements must wear full, correct uniform. Outer garments may only be worn in extreme weather conditions.
  3. The service will begin at 3:00 pm and last approximately 45 minutes. Leaders are requested to explain the purpose of the service and the renewal of the Promise in advance, to help members better understand its significance.
  4. We will assemble on Abbey Green on Sunday, 27th April 2025, at 2:00 pm. Please assemble behind your name post in section order. Groups should form up in lines of two or three abreast, depending on numbers. Each section’s flag, with two escorts, should be positioned immediately in front of their section. GLV/DGLV should join a section of their choice, and Leaders should walk behind their section.
  5. The procession will set off at 2:30 pm, following the route:
Church Place – Church Street – Portersbridge Street – Latimer Street – The Hundred – Market Place – Church Street – Church Place.

The parade will enter the Abbey and be seated in time for the 3:00 pm service. The salute will be taken in the Market Place during the procession. There will be no procession after the service, so if parents wish to line the streets and watch, they should do so after drop-off rather than before pick-up.
