Diggers Day (Night) 2013
Each year Romsey District Scouts hold Digger’s Day in memory of Peter Digby, ADC Scouts, who passed away due to cancer. He left a legacy that we use to keep his passion for Scouting activities alive.
This year’s Digger’s Day, we are aiming to give the Scouts & Guides an insight into how some children within Great Britain spend their nights – this is not just an inner city issue, read the New Forest NightStop website ( http://www.newforestnightstop.org.uk ) and you will realise that it does happen in our back yard. The activity will also give Scouts/Guides within the District/Division an opportunity to raise some money for Centrepoint and New Forest Nightstop, two charities that help young people living on the streets in the UK and locally.
The Scouts & Guides in Romsey District who participated paid good money to sleep outside in cardboard boxes to raise money for young homeless people, specifically in the New Forest but also in the UK generally. The two charities we are raising funds for. The first is New Forest Nightstop who provide a safe haven for a night (or longer if possible) for young people in our area. The second charity is Centrepoint, the UK charity for young homeless people. These charities both help young people who are homeless or sofa-surfing due to issues at home – and yes, sadly, it does happen in our “white, middle-class” backyard.
Every penny helps and the sponsorship page is still open until the end of August 2013 so please visit the Virgin Money Just Giving site and help our Scouts & Guides help others!
